Cacti Scrapbook Layout

Darkroom Door - Friday, September 08, 2017

Hi! Belinda Spencer here today to share a layout I have created featuring stamps from the awesome NEW Cacti Rubber Stamp Set. I have created my own cute cacti embellishments on this layout using an embossing technique as well as watercolour painting with Distress Inks.

1. Cut a piece of pale green cardstock 8 ½ " x 11 ¾ " to form the layout base.

2. Cut a piece of smooth white cardstock 8 ¼ " x 11 ½ " and stick down on top of the pale green piece from Step 1.

3. Place the small Crackle Stencil on the background and swipe some texture paste over it using a palette knife. Lift off the stencil and reapply until you have enough texture to show around your photo. Swipe some areas with the palette knife to create a more uneven, random look. (Wash your stencil straight away to avoid any texture paste drying on it). Dry the texture paste with a heat gun for a more puffy look or allow it to dry naturally for a crisper look.

4. Spritz the background with a little water and apply diluted acrylic paints with a large soft, wet paintbrush. Allow the colour to pool. Spritz with a little more water to get rid of any sharp edges to the paint. Allow the colour to drift and then dry naturally. This technique is really trial and error. You can try to guide where your colour goes with the direction that you spray the water.

5. Apply some stamps from the Grunge Marks set using Distress Inks to add more interest and texture to the background. Add some messy strands of co-ordinating embroidery thread across the background.

6. Mat your photo on white cardstock and add to the layout using 3D foam.

7. Apply clear embossing ink and Fossilized Amber Distress Ink to the cactus stamps and stamp on a separate piece of smooth white cardstock. Heat set with clear embossing powder. Select co-ordinating DistressInk colours and press them onto an acrylic block. Use a soft wet paintbrush to apply the colours to the cacti images. Dry with a heat gun, fussy cut and add to the layout. Use 3D foam behind some for added dimension.

8. Emboss some heart circles from the Simply Circles set using the same technique and colour as in Step 7. Add to the layout along withthe title and any other embellishments.
