Majestic Mountains Christmas Cards

Darkroom Door - Monday, October 29, 2018

Hi there, I'm Heather Telford and I am excited to be sharing some scenic cards today featuring mountains and trees from the new Majestic Mountains Rubber Stamp Set. I love tree stamps so I this set was a must for me. All my scenes are snowy because I am heading into winter soon here in Canada but I can see myself creating with these stamps year round.

Instructions:
1. Splatter masking fluid over cold pressed watercolour paper. Let dry
2. Place torn post-it note mask across panel. Stamp mountain several times in weathered wood distress ink so the base of stamp overlaps the post-reit.
3. Paint sky in dusty concord and tumbled glass distress stains. Add small amount of mustard seed stain close to mountain edges. Dry panel.
4. Place another torn post it note across panel below base of mountains. Stamp trees in chipped sapphire distress ink so trunks of base of trees overlap post it note edge.
5. Blend stamped trees with water to make trees look more solid.
6. Paint a line of weathered wood distress stain along base of trees to create a snow bank.
7. Paint diluted weathered wood stain into foreground of scene.
8. Remove masking fluid.

Vintage Style Pine Cone Cards

Darkroom Door - Friday, October 26, 2018

Hi there! Autumn Clark with you today to share some holiday cards featuring the beautiful new Pine Cones Stamp Set.

These cards were all made by using a stamp platform and Distress Ink pads to repeatedly stamp in a variety of colors to achieve depth and variation in each image. Careful fussy cutting and layering builds dimension and blends the Robin and Pine Cones stamps into one focal grouping. Take a look at the details.

Here's a one minute video showing how to a framing effect with the Spanish Tile background stamp.

Instructions for the cards:
1. Follow the video tutorial above to create backgrounds with the Spanish Tile background stamp. (Color Combos: 1. Antique Linen Distress Oxide, Shabby Shutters Distress Ink, Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.  2. Frayed Burlap Distress Ink, Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide, Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  3. Iced Spruce Distress Oxide, Pumice Stone Distress Ink, Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.)  Tips: Tap heavily onto the edges of the stamp and lightly on the center.  Blot it away the center with a cloth, leaving a little ink remaining. If the center of your panel has too much color, spritz it with water and lift away the color with a cloth. Blending Distress Oxides with Distress Inks creates beautiful oxidized effects. For the second and third colors, don't cover the image entirely so you will get more variation.

2. Use a stamp platform to apply various colors of Distress Ink onto your Pine Cones stamp set and Robin eclectic stamp, spritzing lightly with water between impressions, changing color as needed to produce shadows.

3. Fussy cut all images, including stamped sentiments from the Yuletide Greetings stamp set.

4. Glue base images to background panel as shown, then attach Robin and sentiments with foam tape, tucking in a little bundle of thread beneath your birds.

Shape stencil cards

Darkroom Door - Wednesday, October 17, 2018

Hi there! It’s Rachel Greig here today sharing a series of cards using the new shape stencils! These stencils include the positive and negative shapes for you to create backgrounds and fun designs with ease!

One of the easiest ways to use these stencils is by sponging ink through the shape to create a focal area for your card.

Instructions:
1. Secure a piece of white cardstock to your craft mat using a piece of washi tape. Lay the shaped stencil over the top and secure down with washi tape too.
2. Choose a few colours of Distress Inks in the same shade of colour, ranging from light to dark. Starting with the lights colour, sponge inside the shaped area using an ink blending tool. Cover the entire shape with this colour.
3. Change the foam on your blending tool to the next Distress Ink colour and sponge the ink around the edges, blending it with the first ink colour. Continue to do this with all of the Distress Ink colours you’d like to use, going from the lightest to darkest.
4. Place the Ferns stencil over the shape stencil and sponge through one of the Ferns using the darkest Distress Ink colour in your background. Repeat so you have two ferns stencilled within the shaped area.
5. Lift ff the stencils and it will reveal your stencilled shape!
6. Adhere panel to folded Kraft card and attach a stamped label from the Happy Birthday stamp set.

Here are some more cards and samples using the other shapes:

Boxes 6up Cards

Darkroom Door - Wednesday, September 19, 2018
Hi there! It’s Teresa Abajohere today to share two cards using the Boxes 6 Up Frame Stamp and matching stencil.

Instructions:
1. Stamp the island silhouette from the Tropical Island stamp set using Archival ink. I used a MISTI stamp positioning tool because I planned to stamp this image again over the top of all the sponging in the last step.
2. Tape the edges a piece of white cardstock down to a craft sheet with painter's tape, then tape the Boxes 6 Up stencil over this to prevent any movement.
3. Sponge some Antique Linen Distress Oxide Ink in the area you want a moon to appear. Use a circle punch or die to cut a circle from a Post It Note and place it over the moon.
4. Sponge some Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink over the Post It Note and the rest of the image, keeping an area under the moon a little lighter to look like moonlight reflecting on the water.
5. With the stencil still in place, spatter some water droplets over the sponged ink then blot with paper towel. Remove the stencil and dry well.
6. Apply a spray fixative or Distress Micro Glaze over the image, then replace this piece into the MISTI and stamp the island silhouette image again in black ink. This ensures a sharp, well-defined image.
7. Stamp the sentiment over the moon and emboss with clear embossing powder. Trim the edges to neaten and adhere to the front of a white card over some kraft cardstock.
8. Stamp some of the leaves from the Tropical Leaves stamp set using Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint and Forest Moss Distress Oxide Inks. Fussy cut and adhere to the card. Add a raffia bow.

Supplies used:

Darkroom Door Tropical Island Stamp Set
Darkroom Door Tropical Leaves Stamp Set
Distress Oxide ink: Antique Linen, Faded Jeans, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, Forest Moss
Archival ink: Jet Black

Instructions:
1. Stamp the Boxes 6 Up Frame stamp onto a piece of white card using Archival ink. Tape this down to a craft sheet using painter's tape.
2. Align the Boxes 6 Up stencil over the stamped image and tape down with painter's tape to prevent movement.
3. Sponge through the stencil with Old Paper, Bundled Sage and Forest Moss inks, creating a gradient in each square.
4. Stamp the wildflower images onto the sponged areas with the stencil still in place. It may be necessary to press the stamp down a little harder than usual to ensure the ink gets right up to the edge of the stencil.
5. Remove the stencil and trim the edges of this piece. Mount onto copper, then sage green cardstock, then adhere to the front of a card.
6. Stamp the sentiment onto sage green cardstock and emboss with copper embossing powder. Adhere to card front with foam tape and embellish with flowers.
