Flower Bed Border Stamp Art Journal Page

Darkroom Door - Tuesday, March 26, 2019

Hello Darkroom Door fans!

It’s Belinda Spencer here with you today to share an art journal page I created featuring the gorgeous new Flower Bed Border Stamp. Here I have used heat embossing to add a lovely detailed flower bed band across the centre of my page.

Instructions:

1. Use a gel press and acrylic paints to add a lovely background for your art journal page. Here I have used a combination of sage green, rose and warm white on a page in my kraft journal. Set aside to dry completely.

2. Add some stencilling to the background using the Diamonds Large Stencil and gesso. Allow this to dry completely also.

3. Ensure that the page is completely dry before proceeding with this step. Apply embossing ink to the Flower Bed Border Stamp. Stamp across the centre of the page and then heat set with fine white detail embossing powder. Add some colour to the flowers using Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks. Use a soft wet paintbrush to blend the colour. Lift the top of the page and allow the colour to run. Dry and repeat the colours until you are happy with the depth of colour.

4. Scribble the Scribble Sticks onto an acrylic block and use the paintbrush to pick up the colour and flick over the surface of the page. Also flick some white over the page using a paint pen or diluted gesso.

5. Emboss a flower and some leaves onto some extra kraft paper using the same fine white detail embossing powder. Also stamp and heat set the quote and title. Colour the leaves and flower using the Scribble Sticks. Use the paintbrush to blend the colours. Dry with a heat gun and then fussy cut each element. Stick down on the page. Add some detail to the page using a fine white paint pen.

Hello Darkroom Door fans!

It’s Belinda Spencer here with you today to share a layout featuring the fabulous new Leaves Border Stamp. This is just the most gorgeous stamp for adding wonderful detail to layouts, cards, art journal pages and more. Here I have incorporated the stamped image on a simple layout using a watercolour look effect.

Instructions:

1. Crop a piece of green cardstock or patterned paper to 8½” x 11¾” to form the base of the layout.

2. Crop a piece of smooth white cardstock to 8¼” x 11½”. Stick down on the green base.

3. Colour the Leaves Border Stamp with Faber-Castell Big Brush Stamper Pens. Use a different colour for each type of leaf. Here I have used Cobalt Green, Permanent Olive green and May Green. Spritz the stamp with water and stamp across the page slightly above the halfway mark.

4. Scribble the same pens onto an acrylic block and use a soft, wet paintbrush to flick the colours over the layout. Set aside to dry completely.

5. Stamp the Filmstrip Stamp onto an extra piece of smooth white cardstock using Jet Black Archival Ink. Cut out this element including the centre pieces and stick down on the page.

6. Add some messy embroidery thread across the layout securing with staples. Use the same pens as in step 3 to colour the matching leaf stamps from the Leaves Rubber Stamp Set. Spritz with water and stamp on the extra white cardstock. Allow to dry before fussy cutting each leaf. Staple the leaves together at the base. Add the leaves and photo to the layout.

7. Stamp some stars from the Hello Baby Vol. 1 Rubber Stamp Set onto the white cardstock using two of the green pens. Also stamp the Friends Quote Stamp using Jet Black Archival Ink. Fussy cut the stars and title. Add to the layout.

Hello Darkroom Door fans!

It’s Belinda Spencer here with you today to share a layout featuring the fabulous new Flower Bed Border Stamp. This is just the most gorgeous stamp for adding wonderful detail to layouts, cards, art journal pages and more. Here I have incorporated the stamped image as an anchor for my photo and fussy cut elements using a watercolour look effect.

Instructions:

1. Crop a piece of kraft cardstock or patterned paper to 8½” x 11¾” to form the base of the layout.

2. Crop a piece of smooth white cardstock to 8¼” x 11½”. Stick down on the kraft base. Spritz the page with water just in the main area of the layout where the photo and embellishments will sit. Spritz with a peach coloured spray mist. Flick some droplets of the colour over the top too. Set aside and allow to dry.

3. Select the spotty stamp from the Watery Washes Stamp Set and ink with Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink. Apply the stamp to the layout in a few places. Next apply the same stamp using Picked Raspberry Distress Ink.

4. Colour the Flower Bed Border Stamp with Faber-Castell Big Brush Stamper Pens. Try using a different colour for each style of leave. Here I have used Deep Scarlet Red, Scarlet Red and Orange Glaze. Spritz with water and then stamp on an extra piece of smooth white cardstock. Allow the image to dry completely before fussy cutting. Stick down on the layout using a strip of double sided tape just down the centre of the piece.

5. Stamp various other leaves and flowers on the extra white cardstock using a combination of the Big Brush Stamper Pens and the Distress Inks. Ink the Butterfly Note Eclectic Stamp using the Distress Inks, spritz with water and stamp on the extra cardstock. Allow all images to dry before fussy cutting. Stars Border Stamp Gift Set Ideas

Darkroom Door - Thursday, March 14, 2019

Hello lovely people! Teresa Abajo here with a couple of ideas on how to use the awesome new Stars Border Stamp.

The Darkroom Door Border Stamps are just shy of a whopping 12 inches long! This allows for some flexibility with project choice - from cards, to layouts to even girft wrapping as I've done here:

Instructions:
1. Choose some plain gift wrapping paper and wrap it wround your gift to work out best position for the stamped image.
2. Stamp the image using Distress Embossing Ink, then emboss with Mixed Media powder.

3. Wrap the gift and tie with coordinating cord.

Supplies:
Darkroom Door Stars Border Stamp
Ranger Mixed Media Powder: Punch
Distress Embossing Ink
Kaft wrapping paper
Pink cord

Here's a matching card:

Instructions:
1. Stamp the Star Border onto a 13.8 x 9.5 cm piece of kraft cardstock.
2. Emboss with Mixed Media Powder.
3. Stamp the Crackle Texture stamp onto white cardstock with pink ink, and the Mesh Texture stamp onto pink cardstock with Embossing Ink. Emboss with white embossing powder, then trim into strips.
4. Stamp the sentiment onto white cardstock using pink ink, trim into a strip then adhere them to the bottom right of the card front. Add some stitching with black thread.
5. Mount the card front onto pink cardstock then onto a folded white card.
6. Embellish with pearls, diamentes and adhesive star gems.

Supplies:
Darkroom Door Stars Border Stamp
Darkroom Door Crackle Texture Stamp
Darkroom Door Mesh Texture Stamps
Ranger Mixed Media Powder: Punch
Cardstock: kraft, white, pink

The possibility of layering more stars onto this border was too tempting! Here's another card in a boyish colour scheme:

Instructions:
1. Stamp the Stars Border stamp across a 13.8 x 9.5 cm piece of white card using black ink. Colour parts of it using your choice of media (I used Ecoline Brush Pens), and add ink spatter in coordinating colours.
2. Stamp a few extra stars from the Stars Stamp Set, colour these in too, then fussy cut.
3. Adhere the extra stars over the border image using foam mounting tape. Include pieces of blue thread under some of the elements.
4. Stamp the Happy Birthday Sentiment Strip stamp onto white cardstock using black ink. Cut one of the words out and adhere to card front using foam tape.
5. Mount the card front onto black cardstock, then adhere to a folded white card.
6. Embellish with star gems.

Wander Leaves Border Stamp Art Journal Page

Darkroom Door - Sunday, March 10, 2019

Hello Darkroom Door fans!

It’s Belinda Spencer here with you today to share an art journal page I created featuring the gorgeous new Leaves Border Stamp. Here I have simply stamped using Archival Inks to create a fabulous leafy border at the top and bottom of my art journal page.

Instructions:
1. Use a gel press and acrylic paints to add a lovely background for your art journal page. Here I have used a combination of black and greens on a ‘dirty’ gel press (ie there are some other bits of paints showing up that were not cleaned off my gel press. I love the look that this creates so I rarely clean the gel press between prints)

2. Apply the Leaves Border Stamp the the top and bottom of the page using Watering Can Archival Ink. Stamp again, overlapping the first image, using Jet Black Archival Ink.

3. Stamp the Filmstrip Border Stamp on another piece of kraft paper. (I tore a page from my journal). Cut some rectangles to fit inside the filmstrip from the kraft paper and apply various nature stamps. Stick these rectangles onto the filmstrip and then crop to fit at the top and bottom of the art journal page.

4. Stamp the Central Park Photo Stamp onto a piece of vellum. Tear the edges and staple to the art journal page in the centre. Staple a couple of the torn off strips to the top and bottom of the page. Add some stamped words from the Gum Trees Stamp Set using the Jet Black ink.

5. Stamp the quote, butterflies and stars onto the extra kraft paper. Fussy cut and add to the page.

Supplies used:
Darkroom Door Leaves Border Stamp
Darkroom Door Peeled Paint Texture Stamp
Darkroom Door Wander Quote Stamp
Darkroom Door Central Park Photo Stamp
Darkroom Door Fallen Leaves Background Stamp
Darkroom Door Butterflies Rubber Stamp Set
Darkroom Door Leaves Rubber Stamp Set
Darkroom Door Gum Trees Rubber Stamp Set

Flower Bed Border Stamp Card Set

Stewart Yule - Monday, March 04, 2019

Hello Darkroom Door fans! It’s Belinda Spencer here with you today to share a set of cards I created featuring the gorgeous new Flower Bed Border Stamp. The border stamps are so perfect for layouts and art journal pages due to the size but they can also be adapted beautifully for cards. I’ve created one card design but used it wth 3 different colour ways to create a series of cards. Take a look:

Instructions:

1. Cut a piece of black cardstock measuring 14.5cm x 21cm. Fold in half to form the card base.

2. Cut a piece of smooth white cardstock measuring 10cm x 14cm. Apply Jet Black Archival Ink to the Harlequin Background Stamp. Stamp over this piece. Stick down on the card base.

3. Stamp the Filmstrip Border Stamp on an extra piece of smooth white cardstock using the same ink. Cut out a piece of the filmstrip measuring 14cm long. Cut this piece in half down the centre and stick on the card front with a gap between the pieces.

4. Stamp the Flower Bed Border Stamp twice on the extra white cardstock using the Jet Black ink. Fussy cut a section 14cm long. Stick down on the card front in the centre. Fussy cut some extra flowers from the second stamped image and layer onto the card front.

5. Stamp the Harlequin Background Stamp again onto the extra cardstock and fussy cut a few diamonds. Add to the card front. Also stamp the sentiment, fussy cut and add to the card front using 3D foam for extra dimension.

Here are a couple more cards I created in the same style but this time adding some colour. For this card I simply coloured the Flower Bed image with coloured pencils.

This time I coloured the image with Jane Davenport Smooth Markers which are alcohol markers similar to Copics.

Supplies used:
Darkroom Door Flower Bed Border Stamp
Darkroom Door Filmstrip Border Stamp
Darkroom Door Harlequin Background Stamp
Darkroom Door Chevron Background Stamp
Darkroom Door Mesh Background Stamp
Darkroom Door Carved Leaves Vol. 1 Rubber Stamp Set
Darkroom Door Brushed Sentiments Rubber Stamp Set
Ranger Archival Ink: Cactus Flower, Jet Black, Paradise Teal, Rose Madder

I hope you are feeling inspired to create your own beautiful projects using this fabulous stamp. It really does lend itself so well to whatever medium you choose to colour it with.

Four Seasons Leaves Border Stamp Cards

Darkroom Door - Monday, February 25, 2019

Hi, it’s Belinda here today to share a sweet set of cards featuring the stunning Leaves Border Stamp. Here I have used a watercolour effect to create a set of cards featuring colours to represent all four seasons.

‘Spring’ Card

Instructions:
1. Cut a piece of black cardstock measuring 10.5cm x 29cm. Fold in half to form the card base.
2. Cut a piece of smooth white cardstock measuring 10cm x 14cm. Stick down on the card base.
3. Using Faber-Castell Big Brush Stamper Pens, apply various colours to the leaves. Here I have chosen a different colour for each style of leaf. Spritz the stamp with water and then apply to the card front. Scribble the three pens (separately) onto an acrylic block. Use a soft wet paintbrush to flick the colours over the card front. Allow to dry.
4. Add some messy thread to the card front in a co-ordinating colour. Attach with tiny dots of glue.
5. Use the same pens to colour the tiny star stamps from the Hello Baby Vol. 1 Stamp Set. Huff your breath onto the stamp before stamping on extra smooth white cardstock. Also stamp the ‘Hello Baby’ from this set using Jet Black Archival Ink and just cut out the ‘hello’. Use the Alphabet Medley Stamp Set to stamp the ‘spring’ in the same black ink. Fussy cut all elements and add to the card front.

I used exactly the same technique for each of the seasons just choosing different colours to suit. Here’s a peek at the Summer, Autumn and Winter cards.

Hearts Border Stamp Journal and Card

Darkroom Door - Saturday, February 23, 2019

Hi, Anneke De Clerck here today to share with you a few projects I made using the brand new Hearts Border Stamp. To start with I did an art journal spread in my large Dina Wakley Media journal. To create the background I was inspired by a video by Kate Crane. In the video she shows how to make gel prints with a ‘distressed wood’ look. You can see that video here

Border stamps are great for larger projects but it’s perfectly possible to use them on cards. Bellow I’m sharing 2 card ideas as well.

To make it easy I worked on loose sheets of paper that I glued into the journal after making the gel prints.

Instructions:
1. Apply stripes of Ruby, Olive, White, Elephant and Turquoise Dina Wakley Media Paint on a large gel printing plate using a brayer. Let this layer dry completely. Put a thin layer of white paint on top and pull a print. Make ghost prints for future projects. Repeat the steps to create a second page. Glue both gel prints into the art journal.

2. Stamps the hearts on the left and right side with the Hearts Border Stamp using Archival Ink Jet Black.
3. Stamp randomly with the Grid Texture Stamp using turquoise paint.
4. Stamp parts of the Inky Script Background Stamp using white paint.

5. Sponge white paint through the Large Stencil – Dots. Mask off the stamped hearts if necessary. Outline the dots with a white pen.
6. Stamp a bunch of houses from the Carved Houses Stamp Set on white paper using Archival Ink Jet Black. Cut out and adhere to the spread as shown. Add shadow and highlights to the houses with a black Stabilo pencil and a white pen.
7. Stamp the small hearts from the Hearts Border Stamp separately on white paper using Distress Oxide Ink Crushed Olive, Candied Apple and Peacock Feathers. Cut out and glue on top of the black hearts.
8. Stamp the quote straight on the background using stamps from the Alphabet Medley set. Decorate with 3 small hearts.
9. Adhere strips of black and white washi tape and make 3 cross-stitches with red wax cord.

Instructions:

1. Paint stripes on a mixed media card panel with Dina Wakley Media Paint White, Olive, Ruby, Turquoise and Elephant using a flat brush.
2. Stamp hearts on the painted background using the Hearts Border Stamp and Archival Ink Jet Black. Stamp the hearts again on white paper, cut out (except for the tiny hearts) and add this extra layer on top of the hearts on the background.
3. Mask off the hearts and stamp dots randomly with the Dots Texture Stamp and white paint. Highlight some of the dots by overstamping them with white paint using the eraser at the top of a pencil.

4. Stamp the bottom heart on the Hearts Border Stamp separately on a leftover gel print, cut out and attach cord and a bead as shown. Glue in place using 3D dots.
5. Finish the card off by stamping a wish from the Simple Sayings set using Archival Ink Jet Black.

Instructions:
1. Cut a 4 x 7” card panel out of watercolour paper. Threat the panel with an antistatic pad first. Stamp hearts using the Hearts Border Stamp and Versamark Ink. Heat emboss the print with WOW embossing powder Opaque Bright White.
2. Paint the hearts with Distress Oxide Inks Worn Lipstick, Tattered Rose, Cracked Pistachio, Ripe Persimmon and Picked Raspberry using a water brush.
3. Stamp the text on a strip of vellum using stamps from the Alphabet Medley set. Wrap the strip of vellum around the card and attach at the backside.
4. Apply Dina Wakley Media Paint Ruby, White and Turquoise paint on a sheet of white paper with a brayer. Cut a panel out of it to use as a mat for the watercolour panel. Make machine stitches at the edges. Adhere to a white double card.

Cherish Today Art Journal Page

Darkroom Door - Friday, April 20, 2018

Hi there! It's Rachel Greig with you today to share an art journal page from my Dina Wakley Media journal. This spread uses one of the watercolour pages and one of the Kraft pages. I've created each page as a separate piece of artwork, but used colours that kept it consistent so they look good together as a double page spread.

I started by scraping some white gesso onto the watercolour card stock (left side) and then painting over the top with diluted paint. The diluted paint will lightly resist the gesso.

The two tags I used were coloured with Distress inks. The tag on the left was stamped with the Imperfection Quote Stamp and hearts from the Hearts stamp set. The tag on the right was stamped with the French Script Background Stamp before stamping two numbers from the Big Numbers stamp set. I trimmed two images from the Photo Booth collage sheets to adhere to the tags. The 'Happy Days' text is from the Art de Fleur Vol 2 stamp set. Tie some string at the top of the tags and adhere to the page as shown. This is a great way to use tags in your journals!

The Kraft page was super easy and quick! I stamped the Vine Border Stamp several times across the top of the page using Archival Jet Black ink. The quote from Art de Fleur Vol 2 Stamp set was stamped in the bottom right corner using Distress Embossing ink and embossed in gold embossing powder.

Supplies used:

Darkroom Door Hearts Rubber Stamp Set
Darkroom Door French Script Background Stamp
Archival Ink: Jet Black
